NECHAG North Edinburgh Community Health Action Group
NECHAG (North Edinburgh Community Health Action Group) continues to meet monthly. We have had workshops to list our issues about transport to the three main hospitals serving Edinburgh, and will be working to try to resolve these issues with NHS Lothian as members of a Transport Group. We are also in contact with Lothian Buses about public transport services serving the hospitals.
The consultation over the re-siting of the Sick Kids ends at the end of September. We will be attending a public consultation meeting in North Edinburgh although members of the group suspect that the decision to re-site the Sick Kids at the New ERI has already been made and the consultation is therefore a sham. The group's main concern is that the new Sick Kid's might be another disastrous PFI development and will be seeking to ensure that this is not the case.
North Edinburgh Community Health Action Group is also worried about the knock on effects on local primary care of A&E being so far away. As our recent report shows, people 'hang on' with ailments until they can see their GP rather than try to work out whether to use the Minor Injuries Clinic or travel out to A&E at Little France. Now local GP surgeries are so busy that they are not taking on any new patients, despite the ever increasing size of the community.
